Volunteer FAQs

Once your account is approved by the volunteer coordinator, you will have access to the volunteer calendar, and you can sign up for a shift. A: Volunteers are required to be at least 12 years old. If you are under 12 years of age, we welcome your help with creating snack bags or our make a meal/casserole program (see Volunteer From Your Own Home, School or Office).
A: Many volunteers per week assist Face to Face in a myriad of ways. As a volunteer, you can help by preparing a meal, serving a meal, washing dishes, cleaning the hallway and stairs, or sorting donations. Oftentimes, when a need arises, volunteers are ready to jump in to help!
A: Once you create your volunteer hub account and it is approved by the volunteer coordinator, you will have access to the calendar of volunteer opportunities.
A: Yes, we accept volunteers who need to complete community service for school, extracurricular programs. Please create an account on our online volunteer registration site, Volunteer Hub. Once your account is approved by the volunteer coordinator, you will have access to the volunteer calendar, and you can sign up for a shift. Click here for the link.
A: There is no minimum number of days you are required to volunteer. Face to Face volunteers help as often as their schedule allows. Volunteers serve a few times a week, a few times a month, or once a year. It is up to your schedule and our availability of dates.
A: Volunteers on meal prep should arrive at Face to Face at 9:30am Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. On Sundays, please arrive at 10am for meal prep. Expect to stay until 1pm. Sundays end around 2:30pm
If you are volunteering for meal serving, please arrive at 11:30am Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday. You can expect to stay until 2/2:30pm.
Sunday’s shift is 1:00pm to 4:00pm. When you sign up to volunteer, these times will be given to you as well.

A: Please dress appropriately. We ask that you wear comfortable clothing, but nothing too revealing. A short or long sleeved t-shirt and long shorts or pants is preferable along with closed toe shoes.
A: Please make sure you let us know if you can’t make your scheduled shift. Face to Face counts on our volunteers to do what we do daily! We truly could not run our programs without you. Please email the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as you know you can’t commit to your scheduled time. This will give the Volunteer Coordinator time to hopefully find a replacement.

A: If you are donating bulk items, we ask that you separate them (all shampoos in one container/bag, deodorant in another, etc). We are grateful for your generosity.
A: Due to space limitations, we can only accept items on our wish list. If you have an idea that is not on the list, please discuss it with Becky Messa by emailing her at Becky@facetofacegermantown.org. Click here to learn about neighboring organizations that accept a variety of things such as clothes, household items, etc.
A: Donations are accepted Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:30pm and Sundays from 11:00am to 2:30pm. Please note that our programs are closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays and donations cannot be accepted on those days. When dropping off your donations, you can park in the lot, adjacent to our building. If you need assistance with your donation, pull to the back of the parking lot on the left side, near the loading dock. Then, under the green awning, press #1 on the call box to the left of the door and a staff person will greet you and assist you with your donation delivery. Our address is 123 East Price Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144.
A: We ask that all donations be dropped off at Face to Face on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm and Sundays from 11:00am to 3:30pm. We are not able to pick up donations.
A: We are excited to be education partners with Mercy Neighborhood Ministries. We do not accept children’s items, but we invite you to contact Mercy directly with questions regarding donations. Email Shanta Lemons-Campbell at slemons@mercyneighbors.org.

A: Yes. When you deliver your donation, you will be asked to log in your name, contact information, short description of your donation and the monetary value. Shortly after, you will receive an acknowledgment letter by email. If you have any questions regarding this, contact Shara Dunham at Shara@facetofacegermantown.org.
